The Intro to Horton Series will bring joy and invigoration as you embark on this movement journey.

My name is Marcus Jarrell Willis. I am a Wales based choreographer and dance artist. I am also the Resident Choreographer at Ballet Cymru, Newport.

This two-part video series explores exercises based on the modern dance technique created by Lester Horton. As a former dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (NYC), the Horton Technique was and remains an essential part of my development and continued practice in the Wales dance sector, and internationally.

The Horton technique is inviting to all, whether you have an extensive dance training background or have never engaged with dance before. These exercises build strength, coordination, increases agility and offer movement puzzles that can build a connection between the mind and body.

The late Alvin Ailey said, “Dance is for everybody. I believe that the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people.”

It is with great hopes, the Intro to Horton Series will bring joy and invigoration to you, as you embark on this movement journey.

Happy Dancing!
