Food is a universally understood way of expressing, sharing and imagining.

This workshop uses recipes and memories of food as an abundant source of inspiration and creative writing, even for those of us who aren't so confident in our abilities to write.

All you need is a computer, or a pen and paper, to get writing. The workshop in the first video will involve selecting a food or recipe, planning the structure of your piece and, finally, building a simple story around it.

The short piece of writing you are left with can be used as a novel way of sharing recipes with friends and family, compiling your own creative cookbook, or simply finding a new way to express yourself through something comforting and familiar.

This workshop is inspired by my short piece Tortang Talong, a recipe for a Filipino aubergine-omelette dish, embedded into a story about my mother's dream. You can listen to me read this piece in the second video, and learn a bit more about my practice in the third video.
